Here is our March calendar.

Good afternoon,
For clarification, if your child already attends Blennerhassett PreK and you want them to attend kindergarten at BES, you will not have to come to register them tomorrow during kindergarten registration. Our office will send home paperwork this week for all current pre-k students to return to register for kindergarten. We ask that you please return the paperwork as soon as possible. Thank you and we're sorry for any misunderstandings that anyone may have had.

Today is hat day at BES. Check out the combo!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Wood County Board of Education will meet in special session Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, to conduct candidate interviews and appoint an interim board member to a vacant seat. The board has consulted with the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wood County Clerk’s Office and has been advised, due to election cycle deadlines, a selection must be made by February 12, 2024.
The online application period for those interested in applying for the interim position will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, February 12. The board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. to announce the candidates and interviews will begin at 6:00 p.m. An appointment announcement will follow the completion of the interviews on February 12.
Those submitting an application by Sunday, February 11, will be informed of their interview time before 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12. Applicants submitting applications on Monday, February 12, will be contacted as applications are received throughout the day to have interviews arranged for that evening.

Good afternoon,
Wood County Schools will be offering a 5 day meal kit that will go home with students during Spring Break in March. This meal kit will be sent home on Friday before break. If you would like for your child to receive a meal kit for that week, please call the school at 304-863-5128. Students must register to receive a kit by February 23rd. Thank you.

Pre-K and Kindergarten registration dates will be slightly different this year due to the implementation of the State's new open enrollment policy. We will begin Kindergarten registration starting Tuesday, February 20. That will allow Kindergarten parents to complete the online open enrollment request (beginning January 16) before they actually register at the school. Kindergarten parents/guardians must still complete the registration process at their HOME school, even if they have requested an out-of-district placement. Since the online open enrollment window closes Friday, March 1, ideally, parents can complete the open enrollment request AND register their child for Kindergarten, having the entire process completed by March 1. (TO BE CLEAR—parents/guardians may still register students for Kindergarten anytime from February 20 to the end of the school year—or beyond, if necessary.)
Pre-K registration will begin Monday, March 4. Since Pre-k registration is already based upon an open enrollment concept, and students are placed individually, Pre-k parents/guardians WILL NOT participate in the online open enrollment portal required for all K-12 students. Pre-K registration will occur as it typically has. We hope to enroll as many Pre-K students as possible the week of March 4 - March 8, but enrollment will continue through the end of the school year and beyond, if necessary.

Wood County Schools' open enrollment process will change for the 2024-2025 school year. All open enrollment requests are to be made beginning on January 16 at noon on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com/enrollment. The enrollment is also available on the WCS app. If your child currently attends a school out of district, or you would like for your child to attend a school out of district, you will need to complete an online application. Although the form is simple to complete, if you feel you may need some assistance with the application process, or you do not have access to a device or the internet, all secretaries at our schools have an iPad and can assist you beginning at noon on Tuesday, January 16.
If you child attends the school that corresponds to your home address, and you wish for this to continue, there is no action needed on your part.

Good afternoon,
This is a reminder that when coming to pick up your child in the afternoon, you cannot block the entrance to the middle school. There are middle school parents that need to pick up their child for appointments and cannot get through. Thank you.
