Hello, this is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School, with an important message for all staff students and parents. Beginning Monday, August 31st, through Thursday, September 3rd, we will be distributing iPads for our students in the back-parking lot underneath the bus canopy from 9am-3pm. Students with last names A through K need to come on Monday and Wednesday and students with last names L through Z need to come on Tuesday and Thursday. Students must line up at one of the 5 windows we have available out of the back cafeteria, stay socially distant, and YOU MUST WEAR a MASK! We are highly encouraging, due to the fact we do not want large lines, that freshmen and sophomores come between 9:00 and 12:00 on their schedule day and juniors and seniors come on their day from 12 to 3. When you come to pick up your iPad you will also be able to pick up your class schedule. If for some reason you are unable to pick up your iPad on the day that you are supposed to pick yours up, you may come at an alternate day providing that there's no other way that you can pick it up on your planned day. Those not picked up will not receive it the first day of school, unless their AUP is signed by both parent and student. Also, parents if you have more than one child here at the school you may pick them up on the same day if they have different last names. A parent and student must come together to sign their AUP to pick up their iPad. If you show up and you have already printed out your AUP, all signatures must be on the paper. Your iPads are already preloaded because our wonderful staff preloaded them for you this week; other than waiting in line it shouldn’t take long. Thank you and kudos to our staff members that help set up the iPads! It was a very big undertaking and you did a great job. Also, I want to think the custodians in our building for doing a tremendous job making our school look beautiful! The inside of our complex is immaculate because of their hard work and perseverance getting the school ready along with following Covid-19 protocols. Coming out this week will be some videos to show a virtual tour of our building which is highly important not only for the incoming freshmen, but for those that need to understand how protocols will be followed for Covid-19 within our building. We cannot have a in-person orientation prior to the first day of school, so these videos are very important to watch. On the first day of school, freshman in your STEAM/DG class, your teacher will take you on a guided tour to show you where the important parts of the building are including the cafeteria, the library, and the auditorium. Also, as a reminder, and I'll do another all call for this later, the first day of school is Tuesday September the 8th. Students with last names L through Z attend on Tuesday and Thursday and students with last names A through K attend on Monday and Wednesday. Due to the fact that we have a holiday weekend and we do not have school on Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day, that first week students whose last names A through K will also attend on Friday, September 10th. One last note for Juniors, Seniors will have a couple days to finish up the final parking spots as a privilege for them to pick for parking and then we will start selling spots for Juniors starting Thursday, September the 9th. If you have any further questions about anything I just said please give us a call at 304-420-9595. Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

iPads will be distributed in large ziploc bags that have labels with all student login information. Save the bag or at least save the label so you always have access to all of the wonderful tools available to you.

Back to School Schedule - Code Yellow - Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday, Sept. 10 students with last names L-Z attend school in person----- Wednesday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Sept. 11 students with last names A-K attend school in person. When students do not attend school in person, our new Schoology platform will be utilized to engage students. Due to September 7 being a holiday, we have modified the schedule for the first week of school to accommodate students with last names A-K on Friday, September 11. For more information, please visit the Wood County Schools website, or click https://tinyurl.com/yy9mmrxv for the schedule summary.

This is Kenny DeMoss, Principal of Parkersburg High School with some important information for all parents and students.
For those Juniors and Seniors interested in early college at WVU Parkersburg, registration days will be on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at Parkersburg High School. This will be a drive through fashion in the front horseshoe. If all students planning to take early college/dual credit classes in Fall 2020 can attend during one of these days, WVU Parkersburg staff will make sure students are registered and have the information needed. Payment can also be made at this date.
There have been many phone calls and emails concerning the re-entry to school on September 8th. If you have not done so, please download the Wood County Schools app for updated information. You can follow as may live feeds as you want using this app from various schools. All of our announcements go through this app which also goes on our Facebook Page. Regardless of what interpretation you may have of the Governor’s announcement yesterday, I want to be clear that as of 3:00 PM today, Thursday, August 6th, nothing has changed. WCS will open in a Code Yellow on September 8th, unless changes come forth. Code Yellow means that on M/W students with last names beginning with A-K attend, and on T/TH students with last names beginning with L-Z attend. Currently we are taking requests only for families who want to attend on the same days that live in the same household but may have different last names. There is no guarantee it will be honored due to restrictions on class and lunch sizes. Please be patient as we get closer to our start date as more information will be released.
I also want to be clear that there is a major difference in distance learning and virtual school. Distance learning is provided by your regularly scheduled classroom teachers when WCS is operating in a code red or yellow, but not in a code green. Virtual school is not ran by PHS teachers. Even though you are still enrolled, it is ran by WV Virtual school teachers and the content is, in my opinion, much more difficult than instruction from regular classroom teachers. Parents I want to caution you, if your student has an IEP and your plan is for them to take virtual school classes, that their accommodations will be hard to meet, if met at all, since there is no face to face instruction with virtual school. Please make sure you understand the difference. There is no current option right now for students to just say, "I’m not coming to school and I will stay home and do my classes through my regular teachers 5 days a week"; that only occurs we are in a code red. If that is the choice you want for your student, please contact Jason Potts at the board of education or go to the WCS website and click on Menu and then Events to sign up for virtual school.
Thank you for your time, please download the app for further updates. Thank you and have a wonderful evening.

Good morning, last evening the Wood County BOE approved the revised 2020-2021 school calendar. The calendar can be found on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com then click "menu" then "COVID -19". Also, the WCBOE approved our draft re-entry to school plan, which is subject to change as new guidelines are being established each day. The draft re-entry plan can be found on our website in the "News" feed. Please take time to review the re-entry plan and provide feedback so changes can be considered. As of tonight, Wood County Schools will begin school September 8 in the "yellow" phase and will continue in "yellow" for the first three (3) weeks. On September 21/22, after analyzing community data related to COVID-19, we will make an informed decision to hopefully go "green" (5 days) beginning Monday, September 28. Please continue to follow all safety protocols to help our school system return to normal as quickly as possible. Stay safe and healthy. Have a great day.

For the students and staff, I wear a mask! #MaskUp #BackToSchool #IWantASeason #OnceABigRedAlwaysABigRed

Good evening,
To better prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Wood County Schools is seeking an accurate number of students who would like to participate in a full-time virtual school program. Students would be a Wood County student choosing to take their classes online in a rigorous, web-based learning environment. The virtual school teachers are West Virginia teachers teaching West Virginia content standards. Students will still be able to participate in extracurricular (sports, clubs) and co-curricular activities (Band, ROTC) as would any other student. This is not an easier pathway, but a different pathway to utilize during these uncertain times. The program is for students in grades K -12 interested in a virtual school learning environment. If interested in pursuing the virtual school option for your child, please visit our webpage woodcountyschoolswv.com, click “Menu”, “Parents and Students”, “Virtual School”. You can also email Jason Potts at jason.potts@k12.wv.us for more information. Please stay safe and healthy - Have a wonderful evening.
