On 09-13-2024 at approximately 2:00pm the Parkersburg Police Department was contacted by the Wood County Board of Education in regard to a threat that was received on the See Something Send Something application that alluded to an act of significant school violence at Parkersburg High School. The Parkersburg Police Department immediately took measures to ensure the student's and faculty's safety while the investigation began.
At the onset, it was determined that the 15-year-old suspect juvenile was a student at Parkersburg High School but was not in attendance during the school day. Through investigative measures, the suspect juvenile was located at a residence in Vienna, WV. Officers with the Parkersburg Police Department with the assistance of the Vienna Police Department were able to make contact with the suspect juvenile. Upon doing so, the suspect juvenile was detained and transported to the Parkersburg Police Department to be interviewed.
The suspect juvenile was placed in the Lorri Yeager Juvenile Detention Center to await a detention hearing in Wood County Circuit Court at a later date.
There are no other suspects, persons of interest, or further threats involved in this incident. In addition, no evidence was discovered that would have enabled the juvenile suspect to carry out the threat insinuated in the message.
