"We would like to recognize Mrs. Clark, kindergarten teacher at Madison Elementary. She is so patient and works very hard to teach our daughter. When we met her at the beginning of the school year she told us that our daughter would be reading soon. We didn't know what to think about that possibility, but wow, she was right! We are amazed by the process. Mrs. Clark truly shines in her profession. " -Orrin and Jenny Ellis #TeacherAppreciationWeek2023 #MadisonElementarySchool #WoodCountySchoolsWV #WCSWV

"I’d like to shoutout Mrs. Caitlin Clark at Madison Elementary. Not only is she a great teacher, she supports the kids outside the classroom, too. My daughter had her in kindergarten last year & invited her to a spring soccer game. She sat under an umbrella with me in cold, pouring rain just to watch my girl that weekend. She also came to two tournament games the end of that season. When school started last fall, she asked Kenadi if she was playing soccer again. We gave her the schedule and she showed up for yet another game, even though my daughter is no longer in her class. This meant so much to us, especially to give up her free time on weekends. When asked about Mrs. Clark, Kenadi simply says “She’s THE BEST!!!” ❤️ I am very grateful for her & the love she shows her students - past and present. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Clark! You are appreciated." - Jenna Stout #TeacherAppreciationWeek2023 #MadisonElementarySchool #WoodCountySchoolsWV #WCSWV

***TEACHER SHOUTOUT*** "This is so hard because I can sit and list so many colleagues who deserve a shout out that I would be here all day. I'll try to choose just a few. Shaun Davis and Anna Carpenter have made a huge difference in my 11-year-old daughter's life. Music education came at the right time. My daughter needed music and these two have provided it for her. Mona Chapman was my youngest daughter's teacher last year at Madison. She still talks about Mrs. Chapman and loves her dearly. (She loves all of her teachers but Mrs. Chapman is special to her). Cortney Brunicardi is one of my co-teachers this year at PHS. She has reminded me of how much I enjoy math. She has also furthered my understanding of math concepts that I wasn't always the strongest in. She works hard so that her students leave with a deeper understanding of math. Math is not always an appreciated subject, but she never gives up trying to teach students how Algebra concepts apply to real world situations." To kick off Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to give a shout out to my high school English teacher Miss Goldsworthy! Miss Goldsworthy stopped by the board office the other day with her service dog Duke and I was thrilled to see her, not just because she remains one of my favorite teachers and one of the most influential people in my life, but also because just the day before Superintendent Christie Willis, TIS Eric Murphy and myself had finished recording a podcast about teachers. I had mentioned Miss Goldsworthy as being a major influence on my decision to pursue writing and journalism, and credit her at least in part with me being able to do this job now as spokesman for Wood County Schools. Teachers touch lives in ways many of us do not realize until much later. I am very fortunate to still have this wonderful lady in my life and I am thankful every day for the skills and confidence she has given me. Thank you Miss Goldsworthy! Have a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week! - Michael Erb, Communications Coordinator, Wood County Schools

Late this afternoon administrators were made aware of a possible threat by a student at Van Devender Middle School which was reported through the West Virginia See Send App. Administrators immediately contacted law enforcement and located the student identified in the message.
