Now Available: Explore the rich history of Wood County Schools through New Era School: A dialogue with Esther Carroll
A one-room school building located on the Mineral Wells Elementary School campus serves as a connection to our past. This building, known as New Era school, has been transformed into a museum that showcases the educational community of the nineteenth century. Within the museum, there is an extensive collection of carefully selected materials that chronicle the history of schools in Wood County. The museum is accessible to the general public, offering both individual and group tours, including school trips. In the latest episode of the WCS Voices Podcast, Esther Carroll, a retired library media specialist from Wood County Schools, shares her insights. Ms. Carroll oversees the museum's operations and is responsible for curating historical primary sources and various media. Accompanying the podcast is the melodious mountain dulcimer music performed by Jerry Rockwell.

PHS needs your help. Last night at 11:15 about 4-5 people came onto campus from the 19th St. area on foot near the stadium entrance, & set a trash can on fire @ 12:08. Police were on scene at 12:10 but all suspects ran off towards 19th & Spring St before they got there. If anyone has any information of who might have done this, please email me at KDEMOSS@K12.wv.us
If you would like to remain anonymous, please use the anonymous reporting link on our Facebook page. I’m sure there is a video of the people committing such act because that is the norm nowadays unfortunately. You may also call and leave a message in the office at 304-420-9595 or call the athletic department at 304-485-8010.

Attention all Summer School Students at PHS:
Summer School will begin this Monday, June 12th. There will be a mandatory meeting for all students in the Auditorium on Monday at 8:30. If you have not registered for Summer School, you can do that between 8-830 in Student Services on Monday. Please be advised that Driver’s Ed and PE are already full. At this meeting, we will give the students a handout with the times and dates for Summer School. If you have been assigned to take the second semester of Summer School only, that does not begin until July 3rd. Summer School is only for students who need to retake a course they have already failed in 9-12th grade or to obtain original credit in Health/PE/Driver’s Ed. All students will be issued an iPad, but they will not go home. Students will be able to work on coursework at their own pace, extra on their own time and must attend to pass. When they are finished with their course and have passed it for credit recovery, they will be able to leave for the summer. Summer School hours will be 8:00-11:30 M-F with a grab-and-go breakfast available until 8:30. Lunch will also be a grab-and-go at 11:30.
If you have any questions about anything I just said, please call us at 304-420-9595. Thank you, and have a good evening.

We had an awesome turnout this evening. We sold 71 shirts. We have 25 smalls and 4 mediums left here at school! Here is the website to buy online as well! The cost is $20. #bringgretchenhome

Good thing about buying online is that they have youth sizes as well.
Thank you for your participation!

All shirts are $20 and all proceeds will be donated to the reward for information/evidence. Please come out and support the Fleming Family. Gretchen is a 2013 Graduate of Parkersburg High School. Good afternoon, this is Christie Willis, superintendent of Wood County Schools. Unforeseen traffic issues today have delayed eight Wood County Schools buses bringing students back from field trips in Charleston. This will cause a 30-45 minute dismissal delay for students on those buses and for student who ride those buses home. Students who are delayed at the school will continue to be supervised until the buses arrive. This delay includes students riding bus numbers 80, 81, 169, 176, 183, 184 and 218. This affects students from Williamstown Middle High School, Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, Jackson Middle, Edison Middle, Blennerhassett Middle, Hamilton Middle, Neale Elementary, Lubeck Elementary, Blennerhassett Elementary, Kanawha Elementary and Williamstown Elementary schools. We apologize for the inconvenience and want to assure everyone that students are safe and in good hands. The safety of students is our number one priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this situation.

Attention Prom Guests! Thanks to the great effort of Grand Point, they have worked out a way for us to have More a walk-in at Prom. Since we ARE having a walk-in now, it will start at 6:30 and hopefully move much faster than normal since the attendees are walking a shorter distance. There will be a photographer outside taking pictures of the walk-in, and a photographer inside taking pictures.

Seniors were given yellow half sheets of paper to write down any academic awards they know they are receiving. These sheets need to be returned in order for students to be recognized at the Awards Ceremony on May 19th at 10:00AM. Have students return the forms to the Civics/AP Gov't teacher that passed it out no later than Friday.

This is PHS with an important message to all Juniors. Current 11th graders please do not forget that you must have a meningitis vaccine prior to the 2023 school year. Our school-based health center is going to offer the vaccine the week of May 15th. If you are interested in receiving this vaccine here at school, please stop and see Nurse Danielle for the paperwork or you can have your parent or guardian call the school and Nurse Danielle will send the form home. Please refer to the image online for the required immunizations from the WVDE.

Junior, Senior prom this year will be on Saturday May 7th from 7-10pm at the Grand Pointe in Vienna. You may line up at Grand Pointe starting at 6:00 with doors opening at 6:30. There will not be a lineup like we would on campus due to us renting the facility. We have already asked and with multiple businesses who use the side walk and parking lot, we will not be able to prevent traffic or block it due to safety. However there will be multiple photographers that will be there to take pictures once entering the doors. We will also be setting up a background or arch in front of the Senior Doors starting at 1pm Saturday if you would like to have you photo taken in front of the school. We will be taking it back down that evening. Once you exit the building on prom night, there will be no readmittance. Please make sure your ride picks you up at 10pm. It’s important to keep your ticket and have a student ID since both will be required to enter Prom.
We will stop selling prom tickets in the Finance office at the end of 2nd lunch on Friday the 6th. Tickets will be sold during both lunches all week. Tickets are $30 dollars per person. We are no longer accepting outside guest forms; those were due by 4/14 due to the head count needed for Grand Pointe. All Juniors and Seniors can purchase their prom tickets at the previously mentioned times. If your date is a sophomore, then they must accompany you when you purchase your tickets unless your date is a virtual/remote student. In that case, we must have a note from their parent when you come to buy their ticket that they will be attending. Those students must also be eligible to attend. When you come to purchase your prom ticket, it may be possible that you are on prom probation, and you will not be able to purchase a ticket. If that is they case, you will have a conversation with Mrs. Ray on what the issue is. A Principal has the right to approve or disapprove you going to the prom based upon attendance, or behavior, or any other school related issue. Going to prom is a privilege and not a right, and if it is important to you and to your student to go to prom then they should be following school guidelines faithfully.
We look forward to seeing you this Saturday and we want you to have a safe and enjoyable evening. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 304-420-9595.
