Wood County Schools School briefly placed in lockout while possible online threat investigated: from the News and Sentinel PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg High School was placed under a lockout Tuesday morning. Michael Erb said the school went into a lockout at around 9:30 a.m. in response to a possible online threat. The lockout was where only authorized personnel, school employees and police had access to the building and no visitors were admitted. Students remained in their classrooms until the lockout was lifted. Police Chief Matthew Board said there was no direct threat to the school or a specific student at the school. A local student was mentioned in the situation and involved individuals outside of the area. ”The situation was vetted and investigated,” Board said. The lockout was done out of an abundance of caution until the circumstances were investigated and everyone’s safety insured, Board said. Board said they take the situation seriously, regardless if it initially appears serious or not, and they investigate the matter until it is mitigated. Everything is taken as credible and police investigate the matter to insure everyone remains safe at the school and throughout the community The lockout was lifted at 10:20 a.m. and operations had returned to normal. https://www.newsandsentinel.com/news/local-news/2022/10/school-briefly-placed-in-lockout-while-possible-online-threat-investigated/

Wood County Schools has made a change regarding the caller ID number for all mass calls and texts in which we want you to be aware. Previously, all mass calls made from Wood County Schools, used for emergencies or other important information, whether from the central office or from any individual school, used the number (304) 420-9520 for the caller ID. Starting today, all school mass calls will show a caller ID number that is the same as the school's main telephone number. District calls will continue to show a caller ID of (304) 420-9520. The caller ID number for any individual school may be verified by visiting the school's webpage and finding the phone number in the footer of the page.

The lockout is over. Thank you for your cooperation. At no time was there a threat inside the building. The staff and students did an excellent job of staying put. Look for something to come out later from Michael Erb, media relations at WCS, concerning the issue.

Online threat investigated at PHS, Hamilton Officials at Parkersburg High School and Hamilton Middle School were made aware this morning of a possible threat made in an online chat Wednesday evening. Administrators immediately contacted their school resource officers and began investigating. A student identified as the possible source of the threat was identified and spoken to, as well as the student’s guardian. Officials found no evidence of a credible threat to any specific school or person and no weapons were found. The incident remains under investigation, but both schools are secure and safe and there is no indication of a threat at this time. Wood County Schools appreciate those who came forward to share the online post and to make administrators aware of the possible threat. Through the help of students and staff and our school resource officers, the issue was handled quickly and correctly and both schools continue to operate as normal today.

Homecoming Court nominations are done by any student interested in being on the ballot and you must do so IN WRITING EITHER ON PAPER (turn in to your 3rd period advisory teacher or Mr. Stephens in 131C) OR EMAIL (jdstephe@k12.wv.us) by this Friday, September 16, before 8th period. We do not want nominations by other people to keep from us having to verify that they want to be on the ballot. Students who do not have a third period can email it or stop and see Mr. Stephens. Nominations must include: student name, ID number, male or female, grade and 3rd period teacher ( if no 3rd period the name of the teacher for your first class) Preliminary voting will be done by a paper ballot in 3rd period or seeing Mr. Stephens/Mrs. Swisher if a student isn't at PHS 3rd period. After the preliminary voting takes place, we will vote for prince/princess and queen/king out of the top vote getters for each grade. Thank you
