Hello this is Kenny DeMoss Principal of Parkersburg High School with an important announcement. Starting this Monday, November 15th – Friday, November 19th, we will be conducting a cold weather clothing drive contest for our community in conjunction with the Salvation Army. So starting tomorrow, first period classes, which is also your homeroom, will be collecting some type of warm cap, not a baseball cap, but like a toboggan or skullcap; something that can keep someone warm on their head. We will also be collecting gloves and scarves. Now all of these items must be new in their package or with the tag still on them. Each item will count as one so at the toboggan or scarf would be counted as one and a pair of gloves would be considered one. The homeroom that collects the most items by Friday will win the contest and will be photographed with the Salvation Army on Friday will then donate all the belongings. I appreciate you helping out! Service to our community is a major component of our school culture. We as a school community like to give back to our community and this is what the need is right now. I’m looking forward to seeing the total number of items we actually bring in. This our last full week of school before Thanksgiving. After this coming Friday we will return on the 29th. On a side not I wanted to say thank you to all parents and students who participated in school athletics this Fall. Volleyball just finished up their season on Saturday when they lost in the Elite 8 of States. Congratulations goes out to them for a job well done. Winter sports are in full swing. Swimming stared two weeks ago. Girls basketball last week, and boys basketball and wrestling start this Monday. Girls basketball practice is Monday 630-9 in the FH. Freshman Boys basketball Is after school until 530 in the Jack. 10-12 Grade boys basketball is 4-630 in the FH. Wrestling is 4-6 in the FH Wrestling room. Swim is 7-9pm.

We have a wonderful school, staff, and student body. I am alarmed by certain things that we need to address! 76% off all discipline entries from tardy to the worst is from 9th and 10th graders. I am blaming this on the lack of consistency the last two years due to Covid and social norms and expectations -Cell phones – teachers discretion in class. Students are allowed to have them before & after school, at lunch, and in between classes -Attendance- too many tardies! School starts at 8:AM. Get here earlier! Doors open at 7AM -Dress-Not hats, no bellies, no underwear, no sunglasses, no hoods -Masks-must be worn at all times unless outside, eating, or after school hours -Bathrooms-no backpacks; no more than 6 -Fighting-5 days or more OSS; can be arrested -IDS – Must be worn at all times! -Recording fights – not allowed! Violates FERPA. This also includes taking pictures or videos of others -Disrespect towards staff – This will not be tolerated! If you verbally assault or threaten a staff member or use profane language directly with them, they will be suspended. -Bullying/Harassment/Intimidation Once informed, the instigator can not talk to the victim; if it occurs again, OSS to expulsion will occur Vaping-it’s against the law! Nothing on campus! -Policy 4373-In Loco parentis; The term in loco parentis, Latin for "in the place of a parent" refers to the legal responsibility of a person or organization to take on some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent; Students should be where they are supposed to be doing what they are supposed to do and on time doing it. Administrators have more flexibility with students, more so than police. We will search, we will wand students, we will protect this campus from illegal activity because we have the right and responsibility to do so! -The needs of the many out weight the needs of the few. The 5% of our population (which is about 80-90 students) that choose to come to school for other reasons not associated with learning are the ones you are hearing about. We will protect the integrity of this institution, the staff, and the rest of the 95% of the students coming here doing their job. -Please continue to educate your students on the items I touched on. It starts at home! -Thank you for understanding and thank you to those students coming to school doing their job and being apart of the 95% doing things right! -If you have any further questions please call us.
