Remember a new semester starts tomorrow. If you have a semester course, you will start in your new class on Monday. It is a great chance for a fresh start. The tardy count also resets. The fifth tardy will result in an hour of afterschool detention. Attendance is important. Remember to turn in parent notes and medical excuses to the Admin office or use the link previously shared. Reach out to Mrs. Ray with attendance questions. Let's Go Big Reds!

The PHS Speech& Debate Teamcompeted at the Ripley High Fortnirs Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Daphne Cockerham was named Top Speaker at the event after taking 1st place in Informative Speaking and 2nd in Impromptu as well as 1st place in Duo with partner Brittany Ward, who also took 3rd in Prose.
Other awards included
Dorothy Clark, 1st place in Declamation and Dramatic Interp and 3rd place Poetry
Hayden Carey, 3rd in Declamation
Jake Miller, 3rd Lincoln Douglas debate.

Remember that the focus is not only on unexcused absences but also chronic absenteeism.

We are aware that some misinformation is circulating regarding today's dismissal times for Wood County Schools. Please note that all schools will dismiss today, Wednesday, January 15th, at their normal dismissal times. Thank you for your attention and understanding.

Wood County Schools will be on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Wood County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Tuesday, January 14th, due to refreezing roadway conditions and low temperatures.

Correction: The January 13 edition of the *Parkersburg News & Sentinel* incorrectly stated that Wood County Schools would be adding an additional 30 minutes to the school day in relation to "equivalency time" for days missed due to inclement weather. In fact, Wood County Schools already incorporates 30 extra minutes into its regular school day, which can be used to account for missed instructional time. To be clear, Wood County Schools will not be adding 30 minutes to the end of any school day.

Wood County Schools has announced that pre-kindergarten (pre-k) registration for the 2025-2026 school year will commence on February 3, 2025. Children must be four years old by June 30, 2025 (or qualify for special education IEP services). The district offers free pre-kindergarten classes to eligible children, providing early childhood education to prepare them for future academic success.
